A New Creation in Christ

For nearly a decade, Guillermo’s life was a cycle of addiction, homelessness, and jail time on the streets of Compton, California. Lost in drugs and gang life, he became unreachable to most of his family to the point where they did not know if he was still living. But God had never let go of him.

Then one day, everything shifted. His uncle Moy, now living in Oregon, received a phone call. It was Guillermo, He had reachd the end of himself, tired, broken, but full of a surprising resolve. “I want to follow Jesus,” he said. “I’m ready. I need to be baptized.”

Guillermo didn’t wait. He packed a small bag, grabbed his Bible, and boarded a Greyhound bus bound for Oregon. No job, no money, no plan.

The next day, he was baptized in the Willamette River, surrounded by the house church that meets in Moy and Laura’s home. He left his old life in the water and rose as a new creation.

Now living with Moy and Laura, Guillermo is learning to walk closely with Jesus. He reads through Proverbs with his uncle each day, prays over every part of his life, and shares his story openly. He’s searching for work, rebuilding his life one step at a time.

This isn’t a story about programs or systems—it’s about people who were ready when a prodigal came home. Moy and Laura were there when it mattered, and God used their simple obedience to show Guillermo the road back.

All glory goes to God for pursuing Guillermo in the darkest places, and for restoring him into light. There’s always a road back through Jesus Christ.
