Finding God in the Fragments

A Taliban extremist, hardened by ideology and driven by mission, stopped at a roadside tea stand on his way to fight against NATO forces in Afghanistan. The steam from his cup curled into the dry air. That’s when the wind began to stir.

It came in gusts, lifting scraps of paper and dust into the street, a swirling dance of debris. One scrap, torn and worn, caught the wind and floated toward him, settling at his feet. He looked down, and something made him pause.

The paper seemed to glimmer in the light. Curious, he bent down and began to reassemble the torn pieces. Slowly, words emerged:

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

These words struck him.

He didn’t finish his mission. He turned around and went home.

He began searching for answers in local Christian churches, but no one would speak to him. His reputation followed him, and in Afghanistan, evangelizing to Muslims is illegal. Still, he searched. And eventually, he found leaders from Biglife.

They listened. They shared the Gospel.

He gave his life to Jesus Christ.

Six months later, he had a new mission: to reach other extremists—not with bombs or bullets, but with peace, and with the Word that changed his life forever.

This is a true story. Some details may have been edited to protect identities.
