Rest for the Weary

Across Latin America, something is shifting.

Chris and his team, who serve regionally by training and supporting disciple makers, are seeing a growing hunger in churches—from the Caribbean to Colombia, from Peru to Panama. Believers are growing weary of rigid church structures, event-based ministry, and information-heavy preaching. They’re longing for something more meaningful.

That longing often points to what God designed from the beginning: a lifestyle of being disciples who make disciples.

While visiting a church in Ibagué, Colombia, Chris met Pastor Julio, the leader of the city’s pastors confraternity—a network representing over 130 churches in a city of 600,000. Pastor Julio was deeply moved by the simplicity and Biblical foundation of disciple-making. He immediately invited Chris and his team to speak at the confraternity’s board meeting the next day.

They had been in similar meetings before. Some leaders worry that equipping church members to make disciples might lead to loss of control or people leaving their congregations.

But this time was different.

The pastors in Ibagué were not only receptive—they were excited. They asked if Chris and his team would return to lead a training for all the churches connected to the network, extending even into the wider Tolima region. It was clear: God is moving. He’s preparing His Church to step beyond the building and into the harvest field. The workers may still be few, but He is raising them up and sending them out, making fishers of men around the world.

These are true stories. Names and locations may have been edited to protect individuals.
